Popis: DZIP1 (DAZ interacting protein 1) is also known as DZIP or DZIP2 and is a 867 amino acid protein which is expressed as three isoforms, designated DZIPb, DZIPt1 and DZIPt2. DZIP1 is localized to testis, oocytes, ovary and fetal brain, as well as in embryonic stem cells and germ cells. In testis, DZIP1 is localized to the nucleus and also shows some cytoplasmic distribution in spermatogonia. DZIP1 belongs to the C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family, and, characteristc of the C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family, DZIP1 contains one C2H2-type zinc-finger region through which it is thought to interact with DAZ, an interaction that promotes spermiogenesis. DZIP1 expression is not found in those afflicted with Sertoli cell-only syndrome (characterized by the absence of germ cells in the testis), suggesting that the lack of DZIP1 may be involved in the pathogenesis of Sertoli cell-only syndrome-induced male sterility.

Popis: The PDE4A8 is a testis germ cell-specific PDE4A variant. There are two PDE4A variants identified in rat testis (PDE4A8 and an un-characterized 76 kDa PDE4A protein). Spermatogenesis is accompanied by expression of a varied repertoire of PDE4 enzymes at different stages of cell differentiation that presumably perform specialized functions. Confocal microscopic examination revealed the presence of PDE4A8 in primary and secondary spermatids but not in mature spermatozoa. PDE4A8 inhibition results in increased apoptosis of the germ cells accompanied with reduction in the number of mature spermatozoa.

Popis: MAGEF1 is a member of the MAGE (melanoma antigen gene) superfamily.Most known members of the MAGE superfamily are expressed in tumors, testis and fetal tissues, which has been described as a cancer/testis or "CT" expression pattern. MAGEF1, however, is expressed in all adult and fetal tissues tested, as well as in many tumor types including ovarian, breast, cervical, melanoma and leukemia. The coding region of MAGE-F1 is contained within a single exon and includes a microsatellite repeat. Several MAGE genes are ubiquitously expressed suggesting a role for MAGE encoded proteins in normal cell physiology.
